[ Sint Maartensklin.. ]
Spine Centre
The orthopedic centre of the Sint Maartenskliniek is
respected nationally and internationally for its expertise in fields
such as spinal disorders, joint replacements, rheumatological surgery
and surgery on knees, feet and ankles. The orthopedic centre has, with
good reason, international accreditation as a ‘Spine
Centre’ for spinal surgery.
All orthopedic sub-specialisations
All orthopedic sub-specialisations are available at the
Sint Maartenskliniek. Patients from all over the country are referred
to the Sint Maartenskliniek for treatment of rare congenital ailments
and growth disorders, repair and adjustment of artificial joints and
reconstructive spinal surgery.
In addition, the orthopedic centre has a regional role in treating patients with less complex disorders. There is an Urgent Orthopaedic Assistance Service, to which patients with acute injuries to the musculoskeletal system can be admitted 24 hours a day.
Innovations for surgery and patient care
The orthopedic centre invests in innovation for care and
participates in national and international research projects. It has
introduced new treatment methods, such as the needle aspiration of
calcific deposits (cleaning a calcific shoulder) and percutaneous
treatment of epicondylitis (golf or tennis elbow).
In addition, it has developed a certified blood management
system. The implementation of measures to conserve blood has led to an
82 percent drop in the use of donated blood. The chance of infection
was also reduced by 52 percent, as a result of which hospitalisation is
now 3.5 days shorter on average.
