From psoriasis to arthritis: improved detection, characterization and early treatment of Psoriatic Arthritis

This project aims to improve care for patients with psoriatic arthritis. We intent to do this by improving early detection of psoriatic arthritis and by better measurements of disease activity in these patients. In addition, we want to assess what the preferred first-line treatment should be.

Improved detection:

In collaboration with the Radboudumc, psoriasis patients will be screened for concomitant psoriatic arthritis. The results from this study, together with data from a literature search, will be used to improve psoriatic arthritis detection.

Improved disease activity measurements:

Recently, we extended the measurements that are performed when psoriatic arthritis patients visit their rheumatologist. We will investigate whether these extensive measurements improve patient care.

First-line treatment:

We will assess the effectiveness of methotrexate (current first-line treatment) compared to methotrexate and leflunomide in a randomized study.
