FIT@HOME
This study aims to gain insight into the fitness level of individuals with an incomplete spinal cord injury during their rehabilitation at the Sint Maartenskliniek. We explore whether a specific conditioning program can improve this level of fitness.
What does the study involve?
This study begins with an arm ergometer cycling test to assess the fitness level of individuals with an incomplete spinal cord injury who are for rehabilitation in the Sint Maartenskliniek.
Participants are then randomly assigned to two groups: one follows regular fitness training, while the other undergoes six weeks of specific conditioning training (high-intensity interval training (HIIT)). After this training period, we measure fitness, lung function, muscle strength, (if possible) energy expenditure during walking, daily activities, pain, and quality of life.
What is the goal of the study?
The goal is to develop an optimal training program that helps patients leave rehabilitation fitter and maintain their fitness more effectively.
